LEGION at SENSEI

Legion at Sensei Storefront. 66 Kenmare, NYC.

LEGION is a project at an incidental space conceived by Lisa Kirk that first took place at Joe Latimore's Sensei, 66 Kenmare Street (between Mott and Mulburry) on the border of New York City’s Nolita and Chinatown. LEGION is an ongoing rotation of video and film, as well as, site specific projects that are integrated into select spaces by international, emerging, mid-career and senior artists. For 2 months in the summer of 2006 LEGION debuted a new project weekly at Sensei and hosted an opening event celebrating the artist' contribution to the space in the tradition of NYC underground parties. LEGION does not represent the artists that are shown. Rather, LEGIONspecializes in facilitating private commissions by the exhibiting artists to collectors and institutions staying true to an anti-conventional gallery model. LEGION at Sensei exhibited work by the following artists: Ricardo Valentim, Rose Kallal, Inju Kaboon and friends< Robert Melee, WIlliam McMillin, Luis Agosto Leduc, and Rainer Werner Fassbinder. Additionally, LEGION invited guest curator Josh Kline who contributed videos by Trevor Shimizu. LEGION is esspecially grateful to Matthew Lusk, Marco Antonini and Joe Latimore. Please stay posted with Future Projects in Future locations by David Shaw, Derrick Adams, Mie Yim, Alexandre Singh, Allison Smith, Chloe Piene, Fia Backström, Peter Coffin...and more. to sign up for updates: legion@legionnyc.com
